Writing Just Got Social — AI Doesn’t Write, Students Do
Warning: 1M students are writing again. The new WeWillWrite platform makes students WANT to write together through play. No AI-generated stories, just 100% student creativity!
March 4, SXSW EDU 2025 | Austin, TX
Writing should be fun. But somewhere between “Write 500 words” and “Cite your sources,” it got boring. WeWillWrite is changing that.
Writing is now a team sport. In fast-paced, 2–5 minute story games, students challenge, support, and learn from each other — building confidence and discovering the joy of storytelling. WeWillWrite makes writing social, inspiring students to create their own stories, not rely on AI.
And it’s working. Just months into beta, 1 million students have played and 50,000 teachers have signed up. This isn’t just a tool, it’s a movement reshaping K-12 classrooms.
“We Will, We Will… Write You!”
That’s how Lori Davis’s 4th graders in Wisconsin kick off their sessions — remixing Queen’s iconic anthem. “They cheer each other on, challenge one another and argue over the best words for their stories.” Writing has never felt this electric!
This energy inspired founder Daniel Senn to name the tool. “Writing should be social, safe and playful,” he says. “We’re helping teachers create classrooms where students look forward to writing together and take pride in their stories. When kids feel seen and encouraged, they keep going.”
No More Blank Stares: WeWillWrite is Making Writing Fun Again!
A Father’s Mission: From Frustration to Innovation
Meet Daniel: Educator. Dad. Problem solver. His journey started at home. His two sons, one neurodivergent and the other with a hearing impairment, struggled with traditional learning. Tired of the one-size-fits-all approach, he and his wife rewrote the rules to find better solutions.
He quit his job and built Poio, an award-winning reading app acquired by Kahoot! But he wasn’t done. As his sons grew, he saw a bigger challenge — writing!
"Teachers said, ‘This won’t work,’" Daniel recalls. “They feared kids would feel exposed or nervous to share their writing, or hold back if judged. That pushed me to prove social writing could be inclusive and inspiring.”
Writing now is a Team Sport
Daniel and teachers noticed a troubling trend: students were writing and reading less, losing their confidence and seeing writing as a chore. But Daniel believes writing should excite kids, not feel like just another task on a checklist.
After countless prototypes, he cracked the code: make writing a team sport. By adding competition, collaboration, and instant feedback, writing turned from a snooze fest into the coolest game in class — fast, interactive, and exciting!
Two years (and plenty of coffee!) spent refining classroom dynamics resulted in WeWillWrite — a solution that works for every student, whether they excel or struggle.
Building on Poio’s success, Daniel and his team now help teachers create fun, inclusive classrooms. With built-in filters, teacher moderation and strict data privacy, WeWillWrite ensures a safe space for creativity.
And the results speak. “My students are hooked and ask to play it every day!” says MarrLee Hammond from West Virginia, who watched her 4th graders go from reluctant writers to full-on storytellers.
WeWillWrite Challenges: From Space Explorers to Most Credible Arguments—Pick Your Writing Adventure
Designed for Every Student. Loved by Every Teacher
WeWillWrite encourages inductive learning through interactive challenges, where students discover, create, and grow. This approach helps them develop a growth mindset, turning writing into a superpower.
Because it's built for all, every student feels capable. Short, fast-paced tasks keep them hooked, while instant feedback drives their motivation. The mix of anonymity and competition adds an element of mystery, making writing a shared adventure.
With no names attached, everyone gets a fair shot, focusing on learning instead of status. This safe space allows students to take risks, try new ideas, and get creative.
Fresh challenges every few minutes help them build new skills, learn from each other, and form stronger bonds with their peers and teachers.

AI That Sparks Ideas, Not Replaces Them
While writing is the focus, AI is only used for visuals, feedback and analysis. Every story is 100% student-made. No robots allowed!
Let’s be honest: AI can generate words, but it can’t play like humans. And play is our edge! As educator Aaron Grossman from Nevada, who was 2014 EdWeek Leader to Learn From. says, “This is the first authentic use of educational AI I’ve seen.”
The Impact: Turning Writing Into the Classroom’s Favorite Activity
“I’ve never seen kids this excited to write!” says Liz Bloom, an 8th-grade teacher from North Carolina with 30+ years of experience. Instant feedback makes students care about every word they write.
Sarah Langdon, a Texas 5th grade teacher, adds, “This has been SO engaging for my students! The competitive aspect drives them!"
Like Queen’s anthem pumping up a crowd, WeWillWrite unites students, transforming writing from “Do we have to?” to “YES, let’s do this!”
When writing is fun, students become confident creators and storytellers. That’s the magic of WeWillWrite.
